The Here and Now

Over the summer I read a wonderful book by Henri Nouwen entitled Here and Now. It's a book I would recommend to anyone, honestly, it reads simply, and speaks powerfully to life in the moment. A concept that has really consumed my thoughts lately is the truth that God is the eternal "I am" . . . he is fully, and ever present. He exists in this moment because he fully existed in the last moment, and because this moment was fulfilled, he will be in the next moment. Last weekend, I spent lots of great moments with this wonderful girl, Jen.
And this weekend, and for the next three months, many moments are waiting to be fully filled on this soccer pitch with children who need love present in their lives
Sometimes the gravity of the "future" can be overwhelming: capitalizing opportunities, merging dreams, fulfilling your "call." Maybe the best way to capitalize, merge, and fulfill, is by simply being present in every moment. Live here and now, so that we will be able to live there and then. How requiring of trust. How growing of faith. May we always appreciate what's ahead, think gratefully of the past, and value relationships above all else.
